Simulacije poskusov so postale ključen del sodobne eksperimentalne fizike osnovnih delcev. S primerjavo simuliranih poskusov in dejanskih eksperimentov so uspeli leta 2012 v CERN-u pokazati, da so zaznali delec z lastnostmi Higgsovega bozona. Postopki simulacij so računalniško izjemno zahtevni, potencialna rešitev je uporaba metod strojnega učenja. Članek vključuje pregled zgradbe Velikega hadronskega trkalnika (LHC) in detektorja ATLAS ter njuno delovanje. Nato sledi opis poteka simulacij tovrstnih eksperimentov. Članek pa se zaključuje s kratkim povzetkom prihodnosti strojnega učenja v simulacijah.
Simulation of experiments has become a crucial part of modern experimental elementary particle physics. The Higgs boson was succesfuly detected at CERN in the year 2012, by comparing the data aquired through simulation and the actual experiment. The simulation process has proven to be computationaly extremely complex, which is why a potential solution is being sought out in the use of machine learning algorithms. The article entails an overview of the LHC and the ATLAS detector and their operation. The simulation process is also described. The article concludes with a brief summary of the future of machine learning in simulations.
